Real Estate Continuing Education Classes

MREC AGENCY is a required class for all licensees for the 2012 & 2013 renewal years. If it was not completed by the licensee during 2012 or 2013 then it is a mandatory class during the 2014 or 2015 renewal year for that licensee. It is an elective class for everyone else.
MREC Supervision.  If a licensee becomes a Manager, Broker or Team Leader and has not already taken (in 2012 or 2013) the MREC Supervision class, then the licensee must complete the class within 90 days of assuming the new position. Supervision is an elective class for everyone else. See requirements at bottom of this page.

Maryland   -  Real Estate License Renewal Requirements

Continuing Education Requirements for all lcenses who RENEWED in 2012 or 2013 and whose CURRENT license expires between 1/1/2014 and 10/1/2015.

Residential (ALL LICENSEES):
15 hours including 3.0 legislative, 1.5 fair housing, 3.0 ethics (required classes)

    • Commercial Designation (SOLELY - NO RESIDENTIAL BUSINESS):  15 hours including 3.0 legislative & 3.0 ethics (required classes)
    • Licensees with a graduate degree in law or real estate from an accredited college or university (must supply documentation at audit): 7.5 hours (3.0 legislative, 3.0 Maryland ethics and 1.5 fair housing (residential); if solely commercial, 7.5 hours including 3.0 legislative 3.0 Maryland ethics and 1.5 elective) (required classes)
    • Legislative topic (a), fair housing topic (c), and ethics topic (d) are required Maryland courses.
      The ethics course must include MD Code of Ethics, Flipping and Predatory Lending.
    • MREC AGENCY  - if not completed by the licensee during 2012 or 2013 then it is a mandatory class during the 2014 or 2015 renewal year for that licensee. It is an elective class for everyone else. 
      MREC Supervision.  If a licensee becomes a Manager, Broker or Team Leader and has not already taken (in 2012 or 2013) the MREC Supervision class, then the licensee must complete the class within 90 days of assuming the new position. Supervision is an elective class for everyone else.
    • If your license was on inactive status and you have missed a renewal time, please contact the Maryland Real Estate Commission for your specific requirements for reinstatement.

As a result of Governor Lawrence Hogan’s approval of House Bill 1056 / CH0115 (SB0610), the continuing education requirements for all Maryland real estate licensees will be changing, effective October 1, 2015.

 

Significant changes include:

  • No reduction in hours for a licensee possessing a graduate degree in law
  • No reduction in hours for a licensee possessing a graduate degree in real estate
  • All licensees must complete 15 hours of continuing education
  • Agency is required for all agents every two (2) years
  • Supervision is required for all brokers, designated branch managers and teams leaders every two (2) years.

There will be no grace period for obtaining the required hours.  If the license expires on or after October 1, 2015, the licensee will be required to have the proper hours completed prior to renewal of a license, even if renewing as inactive.

SALESPERSONS AND ASSOCIATE BROKERS

  • 15 hours which includes 3.0 legislative, 3.0 agency, 3.0 ethics, 3.0 supervision (required classes); the remaining 3.0 hours are electives

REMINDERS:

  • Legislative topic (A), ethics topic (D), and agency topic (H) are required Maryland courses for all licensees.
  • Fair housing topic (C) is required for all licensees with a residential license.
  • Supervision topic (I) is required for all brokers, designated branch office managers and team leaders.
  • The ethics course must include MD Code of Ethics, Flipping and Predatory Lending. 
NAR ethics is not a substitute for the Maryland required ethics course.


 Renewal Requirements for INITIAL or FIRST RENEWAL in MD with license expiration date between 1/1/14 and 10/1/15 

Legislative topic (a), fair housing topic (c), ethics topic (d) and agency topic (h) are required Maryland courses. The ethics course must include MD Code of Ethics, Flipping and Predatory Lending. See chart below regarding requirements for Agency topic (h) & Supervision topic (i).

  District of Columbia       License Renewal Requirements

                                 VIRGINIA  Requirements                                                          

 Residential Standard Agency  - Important information  for all Virginia agents   
All licensees who renew an active salesperson or broker license or who activate an inactive salesperson or broker license from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2014, must complete the three-hour Residential Standard Agency (RSA) course.   There is an RSA course “waiver” option for licensees who certify through a notarized affidavit that they will not practice residential real estate during their two-year licensure term.
Completing this RSA course will be a one-time renewal or activation requirement, and it will be in addition to the required 16 or 24 hours of CE or to the required 30 hours of PLE.  RSA is a special one-time only type of CE requirement and credit.  Licensees will not receive regular CE or PLE credit for completing an RSA course – they will only receive RSA CE credit.

VIRGINIA CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL BROKERS
& FOR
SALESPERSONS WHO HAVE RENEWED THEIR LICENSE AT LEAST ONCE.
Section 54.1-2105.03 of the Code of Virginia requires that all Board-licensed brokers and salespersons (who have renewed their license at least once before) complete Board-approved Continuing Education to renew or activate their license(s).

Brokers must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education to renew their license(s). Of these 24 hours, they must complete 8 hours in Broker Management & Agent Supervision, 3 hours in Ethics & Standards of Conduct, 2 hours in Fair Housing, 1 hour in Legal Updates and Emerging Trends, 1 hour in Real Estate Agency and 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts. The remaining 8 hours may be in Real Estate Related Subjects (electives) or in the required Continuing Education subjects mentioned earlier in this paragraph.
These Continuing Education requirements also apply to inactive brokers who apply to activate their license(s).

Salespersons
who have renewed their license at least once before must complete 16 hours of Continuing Education courses to renew their license. Of these 16 hours, they must complete 3 hours in Ethics and Standards of Conduct, 2 hours in Fair Housing, 1 hour in Legal Updates and Emerging Trends, 1 hour in Real Estate Agency and 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts. The remaining 8 hours may be in Real Estate Related Subjects (electives) or in the required Continuing Education subjects mentioned earlier in this paragraph.

  Virginia  -  Post License Education Requirements for New Salespersons

The Real Estate Board 30-hour Three-Track Post-License Education (PLE 3T) option expires on Dec. 31, 2013

Real estate salespersons already in the process of completing the PLE 3T program must finish all 30 hours no later than Dec. 31st As of January 1, 2014, only the Single-Track Post-License Education (PLE 1T) program will satisfy the 30-hour curriculum requirement. No PLE 3T courses will count toward the 30 hours of PLE 1T required to be completed within one year of obtaining initial licensure. 


OUT OF STATE CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT - Virginia
The Board (Virginia) will accept up to eight hours of approved continuing education courses that a broker or salesperson has completed in another state as long as the licensee has a current real estate license in that other state and completed these continuing education courses during the current two-year licensure term. These eight hours can be applied only to the “Real Estate Related Subjects” (elective) Continuing Education category. In order to receive up to eight hours of real estate Continuing Education credits in the Real Estate Related Subjects” category, a licensee must submit to the Board: 1) an original or notarized copy of the current out of state license (with its expiration date); and, 2) original or notarized copies of the continuing education course completion certificates.

          The Academy strictly follows the guidelines set forth by the real estate commission.

1. Students must be physically present during ALL of the offering time. 
2. No certificate will be given when a student arrives late, leaves early or steps out to answer phones.
  (no grace period so please arrive early)

Please be aware: The school is required to deny credit to anyone in violation of these rules.

.  You MUST be on time!  Please allow plenty of time for traffic and weather conditions.   REFUNDS WILL NOT BE GIVEN FOR LATE ARRIVALS OR IF YOU ARE NOT IN ATTENDANCE FOR THE ENTIRE CLASS!!

Seating reservations will not be confirmed until payment has been received.

Rescheduling
If you are unable to attend a registered class, please notify us within 24 hours of the class to reschedule the class to an alternate date.

Canceled Classes. We reserve the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment.  We will notify you as soon as possible should the class be canceled.  A refund will be given for canceled classes or you have the option of rescheduling to another date.

lnclement Weather Policy
The Academy and our instructors make every effort to hold classes that you register for, even on ‘snow’ days. If, however, you are unable to attend a class due to inclement weather and you notify the school on that day via e-mail, the Academy will grant you a refund for that day’s classes or credit the same amount toward any rescheduled classes in the future.
If classes are canceled due to inclement weather that information will be posted on this page.   Please check the website the morning of the class.

Prices
3 hour credit classes  $30
1.5 hour credit classes  $15
$10 for each additional jurisdiction certificate; 
$10 late registration fee for 'walk-ins"
